Being able to forget is a blessing.

From year to year, I forget how cold winter is.
I forget how the first rush of springtime goes directly from my grateful eyes to my sinus cavities.
That being so, I always look forward to the next season.

Forgetting where the corner of the closet wall is, and getting up in the dark in a rush to the Little Room: Not such a blessing.
My toes squashed against the baseboard, I recoiled backward, one arm outstretched in front of me, the other windmilling to the back.
I stopped, reoriented my suddenly wakeful self, and started over.
You will be relieved, as I was, to know that the trip was completed successfully.

Don't you think all rooms move around in the dark - just to confuse us?! LOL! Hope the toes were unscathed.

Hi Jinksy! One toe is a little scathed, but nothing un-overcomeable.

Ouch! Painful.

If, like me, you've had a lifetime of having to get up in the night and make your way to the bathroom, you can probably navigate unscathed pretty much anywhere in the dark! It's the one disadvantage of having an attic bedroom and a bathroom on the next floor down. The real risk comes from cats lying in wait on the stairs.....

What a colorful way to describe what I'm sure felt like a klutzy moment. My own hubby walked face first into one of our walls several months ago. In the dark, not thinking, got distracted. Isn't it funny how our own homes pull pranks on us? Glad you're OK.

Poor toe ! Mind you , it could have been worse , I suppose .... what with one thing and another .

Inay, yes, so do I. Thanks for the blessing.

Rachel, you're right...I can manage pretty well in near pitch dark. Last night was one of the rare times that I did not snap completely awake. Until impact.

Susan, yup. Completely klutzy moment. Amusing though too, even at the time, to think of how I must have looked to the dogs and the cat. "Wotinell's wrong with Mom???"

S & S, yes indeedy. Could've been much, much worse!

All righty then... Bubble wrap pj's, steel-toed slippers, and padded walls. Would you like fries with that?

and no further accidents of an embarrassing kind?
did you manage to wake the dead?

June said...

LW, um yes, thengew. Fries would be good. :-)

Friko...no peripheral incidents. And no, no waking of the dead. I usually make no noise when I perform antics like that. Even the fall out of the shower onto the floor, that broke a bone, only caused me to say, cautiously, while lying on the bathroom floor, "Owww?"

I prefer the darkness too, for those middle of the night get up and go's, wouldn't want to wake up fully with lights, but I'm paranoid a certain stool will be out of it's place and in my path one of those nights. I once broke an ankle coming down the stairs in the dark, when I turned to go back for something...backwards I fell on our circular staircase! Our homes are dangerous!

On the subject of forgetting - Did you, or did you not email me direct at one time, so's I could 'talk'to you? LOL! If you did, I've forgotten where I put you! Can I ask for a repeat?

Oh yes, Wanda (and Rachel). Cats who lounge on the stairstep below and the oddly placed footstool are always hazards.
As are electrical wires that are completely out of the range of movement but are still, magically, able to be caught between toes. That was my broken ankle moment...

Jinksy...comin' up!

This disorientation speaks of a deep sleep, so I think you were actually lucky. Especially since you reached your destination with no broken bones. Sleep well, June...but watch where you're headed.
