The dying of the light

Rage, rage against it all you like: the light of life, and of day, and
of carotene and anthocyanin all fade in
a dishearteningly short time.

Even a brief blaze from fall is a gift! I biked today and the a aspens are bare. But, the sun was out and the peaks were gleaming white.

I feel an odd sense of embarrassment for those poor naked trees.

No super-glue, where you live, then?

I hope you get a picture of these same trees in spring, too! :-)

Hmmm, those trees took a hit. We're about half down and waiting for the end to start clearing out the yard.

Wow...the seasons have changed so fast and so soon! It's still 95 here in Arizona, but I'm headed to Chicago for a college reunion next week and expect to encounter serious autumn! I agree with DJan that it would be really cool to take pictures of these trees in every season!

So, so true. I just sat and watched the evening set in tonight. It was so beautiful. The trees still had a golden glow about 5:00. By 5:30 the light was going and the leaves no longer had their autumn glory. I realized we have to take in the beauty for the short time it is there or we will never see it at all.

Wow. Our leaves are just starting to turn.

I know. I was driving up 95 yesterday and realized how November-y it was starting to look. It is disheartening--more the early dark than anything. I do like the sparseness of the Northern landscape in winter. Still, it's hard in winter--I understand why so many people go south. Take heart, my dear--in transitional periods, I go for walks, keep the fire going and make squash soup!

That was rather fast. Hopefully it will still be a long time before it turns white!

Ahhh, Dylan Thomas if I am not mistaken. Wonderful verse.

but, my, does the sun ever start setting early!

I love the autumn color and the empty winter branches. Not real keen on the rain, though, and the darkness.

While it wanes here I guess it brightens the southern hemisphere.
