Fresh sheets

Bernie's The Cool Side of the Pillow made me think of how good it feels to get into a freshly-changed bed.
Fresh sheets are crisp but soft. They smell good. The whole mattress feels new, the pillows in fresh pillow cases feel extra plumpy soft. For a while when I was newly married, and at various stages since, I have ironed my pillow cases. (Newly-married June ironed Husband's undershirts too.) I'm not in that phase right now; I like the smoothness of ironed pillow cases, and the way they look on the bed, but they smell ironed instead of fresh. And I don't sleep so well because I don't want to wrinkle them after having put in the effort of making them look so nice.

I read once that Jackie Onassis' daily routine included an afternoon nap on fresh sheets. Her housekeeper changed the sheets after she got up in the morning, and again before she went to bed at night. Probably that's a usual thing for people who have housekeepers. It would be number one on my list if I had somebody who would do it.

It's 10:41pm. I think I need to change my sheets before I go to sleep.

I thought of fresh clean sheets too but I thought it would be too close for me to say after the cool side of the pillow. I am glad that that you thought of it. It too is such a universal sentiment. Isn't it cool to find out that other people like and do the same things you do? It is for me. I guess I always thought I was so different because I was brought up to not being able to do what others did and so I felt I was the only one who felt about certain things like I did. Does that make sense to you?

Anyway, thanks for visiting my blog again.

I never thought about having someone change my sheets twice a day. Laundry and dusting yes. My least favorite chores!

Here when I change the bed linens, I do a little happy dance about being able to sleep in a "tight bed." Such a luxury.

Happy new year, June.

Yet another reason to love the summer (and one's washing machine) . Being able to wash the sheets early and hang them out every morning, ready to put on fresh every night .
Mind you , the neighbours probably think one of us is bed-wetting !

I love the smell of fresh linens on the bed. I've gone through stages of having colored or printed sheets and pillow cases but now I've decided that white is best.
I'd love to have my bed changed every day, maybe when I when the lottery.

Nancy Astor had fresh flowers in every single room every single day. Oh for a life of luxury like that! All the best to you June, I'm so glad I found your blog, and look forward very much to what you have to share with us in 2011. Have a wonderful, peaceful New Year.

One of my best memories of changing sheets has to do with my children and grandkids. I love how they would jump on the bed under the sheets as I was trying to make the bed. My little "bedbugs" and I would end up rolling around and making sheet tents. Sheets fresh off a close line smelling of clean air and warm from the sunshine are the best.I think I need to go and install a close line now. Thanks for taking me back in time when life was more simple.

Bernie, I knew you had to be thinking of fresh sheets, too! I do know what you mean about thinking you are/were different. We're all different, which is why these universal pleasures are such unifying things.

LydiaO, I'd pay somebody to put away the clean laundry, but I like washing it. I don't see dust, somehow, so it doesn't bother me . . . as much as it does other people . . . Husband, say...

Carson, that's the word. The bed is "tight." Perfect. Thank you. And Happy New Year to you and all the critters, too.

S&S, every day? :-o You do that every day? Can I come live with you? I'll strip the beds and wash 'em and hang 'em out. You can put the sheets back on. 'Kay?

Mac n' Janet, I agree with Andy Rooney, who said three things should be white: towels, underwear, and sheets. (I've sort of departed from that philosophy in regard to underwear in recent years.)

Autumn Mist, I'm glad you found your way here, too! Wouldn't fresh flowers all the time be just . . . NICE???

Carrie Lynne, those memories sound like truly golden ones! I often trap my cat underneath the fitted sheet . . . she won't MOVE until all four corners are on and she has to tunnel like a mole out the side. One of my coworkers took note of my midsummer wish for a clothesline and actually gave me a length of line for Christmas. Now I just need the poles!

Happy New Year June! I agree that fresh sheets is one of life's little pleasures. There is nothing better that clean sheets and a warm bed on a cold morning when I don't have to get up.

Your getting poles? Multi-tasking has a new meaning now. You can dance while hanging sheets.(as in may pole and not the other kind of pole dance) Happy New Year!

A lovely memory you've made for me, June on this last day of 2010. I haven't hung sheets out in a long, long time. Our mountain weather just doesn't cooperate! But, my childhood sheets, fresh from the line, are one of my happiest sensory memories. To lie in all that freshness was so comforting. As for changing them 2X a day - my husband and I have trouble remembering when we changed them and if it's time again...

Fresh sheets, and the radio as I drift off. Perfect.

I too love fresh sheets. My mother ironed our sheets...always. I remember that when I was sick, my mother used to change my sheets every day. I still think that nothing makes you feel better when you are sick than fresh, clean, cool sheets!
