Angus is sick

Angus has an infection in his head. I fear that it's been there for longer than I'd like to think about. Old dogs, you know . . . even poodles . . . develop a stink . . . so we didn't pay much attention until he really began to reek more than a nearly seventeen-year-old poodle should. I have an appointment for 3:00 Monday afternoon. I'm thinking it's an ear infection that grew into something monstrous. He's always been prone to ear infections.

We've been living from day to day since the middle of last week, hoping that the doctor will say, "Here's some antibiotic. This'll fix him up in no time," but I'm not really expecting that. What I'm expecting is surgery with the attendant cardiac risks for a dog who has . . . issues . . . in that area.

Well, what can I do? Que sera, sera.

Husband thinks he's petted out because he can't stand the ending part. Everybody always feels that way, but we've always had at least one dog since our fifth year together.
What would we talk about if we should have no pet at all?

I have to deal with trying to give ear medicine to a veRy uncooperative dog. I have learned a trick: I make him think I am going for the left ear and then suddenly switch to the right! I am behind him when I do this with him sitting in front of me.

Oh June, I hear what you're saying or, not saying. Let's hope Angus can at least be made comfortable and on the up side even fixed!
Keep us updated won't you?
Hugs

esbboston, I tried to open Angus' mouth last night to give him the pills that he did not ingest with his food, which he did not eat. He DID NOT WANT ME IN THERE. There's no other mouth for me to try your ruse with.

Cranky Crone, thank you. Years ago, it struck me that they would all get old at the same time. Annus horribilus indeed.

Rose, thanks. The little guy has SUCH a fighting spirit that if he has half a chance, he'll rally and be jumping at the door when I come home in days.

Aw, no....my heart is with you. Such a hard time in our marvelous journey through life with our wonderful dogs. I haven't been writing about it, but our last BC, Nick, is having a real rough go of it. I thought this weekend would be the last but he rallied. I will be thinking of you all.

It is so hard to know they suffer. My thoughts are with the three of you.

Poor guy. I know we try everything to help but the fact is that we all run down eventually. I am so hoping it will be resolved as you hope, with him recovering and jumping to greet you. We love our pets immoderately, knowing that we will outlive them. We pay the price because they give us so much. Sending you hugs.

It is so hard to say good by to the furry members of your family. Good luck with everything. ((hugs))

So sorry to hear this, June. I hope that they will be able to ease his discomfort and rid him of this infection. I know how hard it is when our pets are ailing. Hugs to you.
