Last night's dream

I dreamt that I was a cat, the youngest in a colony of cats who all looked very much like me.
We were all pretty cats: black and gray tabby with white bib and paws and lips.
It seems as if the dream went on and on. There was lots of conversation among us, along the lines of: We are cats and may do as we please, whenever and wherever we please.
In the final scene of this dream, we were all gathered in a diner, all sitting like humans in booths.
It was a meeting of some type, and our patriarch said: "We are cats. We have no kings. Except humans, but that goes without saying, since humans rule everything...."
He went on with his speech, or announcement, but I was shocked.
It had never occurred to me that We the Cats had any superiors, least of all . . . humans.

In a scrap tacked onto this dream, there were a few Helpful Household Hints.
One of them was to use a curling iron to iron ribbons.

I don't know where my brain gets this stuff.

A few days back, a relative of mine told me about this saying that goes around in Bengali families (Bengal is where we're originally from) that when dogs watch you while your family is eating, they hope that the family grows so that the amount of scraps increase for the dog, but when the cat watches the family eat, it's wishing that the family would break up somehow so that the cat's share increases.

I've never been too fond of cats... I could never trust them. Even I was surprised, therefore, to think that cats can have this concept of kings too, and that they might see humans sitting in that position...

How funny. Dreams are a mystery for sure. I like your quote for the day.

I'm not dreaming, but imagining using the curling iron on the cats' tails - would each then be "the cat's whiskers?"

Our brains are baffling in this ability to accomplish so much in this mysterious process of dreaming. I think of it as private entertainment.

Historically, I rarely remember my dreams. In the last several weeks though, I've had WILD dreams - some of them quite violent. I've noticed a pattern - I dream the dream with the violent or betrayal theme and then my next dream will be filled with creativity. Interesting how the brain works, even while asleep.

I like your cat dream.

I have never dreamed of being an animal....maybe it's because your pets are so well treated and you know how lucky they are.

You're back, that's good, is it?

Why would you want to be a cat? Do you feel hemmed in? Do you want the freedom of the cat?
But you answered your own need by admitting that somebody is in charge of cats too.

I can't imagine being a cat. My own cat has the population of our house all nailed down.

I'm so pleased that I can call on you next time my ribbons lose their curl .
Cats , on the whole , regard us rather as Victorian gentlemen regarded bootboys .... handy to have around .
I looked after Smitonius' cat this summer for a few days . Innately polite , she kindly bestowed a gracious nod after I'd cut her scallops into the right number of pieces and refilled her bowl with filtered water .

Really? I never thought of dreaming about being another animal. What a unique thought!!

Darn! I ditched my curling iron for lack of use some time ago.
Now, cats...I saw a young girl who had leopard-like spots tattooed on her arms and legs. She had small spots tattooed on her face all around her eyes and mouth. To complete the theme she had these metal spikes piercing her cheeks to look like whiskers. It wasn't as freaky as it might sound--I thought arty kind of Halloween costume--except that it was permanent. I can't imagine what possesses a young person to scar her own body in such a way.

An excellent dream, and so much better than those ones where you realise you are in a crowded airport wearing only a skimpy vest.....

I don't think I've ever dreamed I was an animal either. But aren't cats a symbol of royalty? That must tell you something about yourself.

I once dreamed I was crawling down a stream and met a crocodile. Next thing I knew I woke up, and I was on the floor. But that's a whole 'nother story. Anyway, enjoyed your tail ... er, I mean tale.

Arnab, considering Bengal is the home of those gigantic tigers . . . I can see how you'd have a little problem feeling all warm and fuzzy about felines.

Elizabeth, I'm glad you like the quote. I can't take credit since it's put up there by BrainyQuotes or whoever . . . I don't get to choose.

Jinksy, I don't even want to think about what would happen if you tried to apply a curling iron to a cat's tail...

Grandmother, I too like dreams of all sorts. It's like watching a movie while I'm otherwise doing nothing.
:-)

Carolynn, you reminded me of an unprecentedly violent dream I had. I'll post it tomorrow.

Wanda, goatman, Sightings . . . I don't think I have ever before dreamed of being an animal. It was very nice being a cat. Supreme confidence.

Friko, sometimes you come uncomfortably close to my essence with your analyses...

Linda, I would not have been able to imagine it either. Now I can. I liked it.

S & S you are absolutely correct. It isn't feline arrogance . . . it's just Expecting Proper Treatment. My cat colony lived independent of humans. I don't recall mealtimes, but I'm sure they would not have included quartered scallops.

Olga, I can see the fun of having such decorations at a young age. But when she's seventy, she'll still have them. Ew.

Rachel, oh yes. It was infinitely better than one of those!

One does wonder about the dreams we have. Whatever do they mean? Your dream seemed to have a clear teaching.

Cats are always cool -- cool cat, etc. I love cats and would not mind being one at all. They're so independent and maybe that's why you were dreaming you were one. It sounds like you didn't accept having humans for a boss just because the other cats did. Thinking for yourself maybe?

RET and Towanda . . . I don't know that it meant anything, really. When I revisit the feelings I had while I was feline, they were just all nice feelings. Secure, confident, unworried, unhurried.
Right up until that last, which I think I figured I just hadn't known because I was the youngest of the group. The humans ruled everything, but we stayed pretty much clear of them in our communal life.

It might simply have been a dream about our last-seen feral cat. S/he chased MiMau up onto the front porch in the early EARLY morning hours. S/he was colored the way I was in the dream.
And she was vastly surprised when I opened the door . . . gone like a shot.

Amongst other things, the biggest reason I don't like cats is that they make me sneeze. Dogs don't do that. Now, I don't want to get that close to a Bengal Tiger, to see if that makes me sneeze or not... chances are I'd be dead before I know that! :D

June, I discovered you by clicking on one of Grandmother's favorites -- and I have spent the last few hours reading some of your earlier posts. And just now I decided to come to some more recent posts and find that we have many of the same blogging family!

Your writing style is very appealing to me. I read about Angus' run-in with a fisher and cried. I am so glad he's all right! How is it possible I knew nothing about you this morning and now I want to know everything?

That's the blogosphere for you...
