Seven Good Things in no particular order

  1. Lying in bed and having a small poodle nestle his warm body against one's slightly arthritic lower back.
  2. Finally clearing up a pile of things dropped in one spot for moving elsewhere "later." I have an antique student desk at the foot of the stairway. It's in a little nook and the perfect place to drop things for later travel upstairs. Except that things seem to grow roots there. Yesterday I bestirred myself to clear out the whole mess.
  3. Listening to a Great Horned Owl calling out there in the dark.
  4. Being in the middle of a book that wants me to come back to it.
  5. Seeing all three animals cavorting and exercising their instincts. All of us outdoors. In complete comfort. In late November.
  6. Knowing that I need not go out among the maddened Shoppers who are armed with pepper spray and worse.
  7. Sitting and conversing with Husband about news stories or acquaintances or the tractor. Such comfort.

yes, all of them bring me comfort too, except for the pile of 'move later stuff'.

I have a basket sitting at the foot of the stairs for such items; when it's full, it's taken upstairs and emptied.

Sorry, I am just a tad too practical and tidy at times.

That's a wonderful list. The one I would star is being grateful for a sensible partner to talk with about current events. I can't imagine what it would be like to be married to someone I couldn't talk to with agreement about these things! :-)

Such a very good accurate list of the best things to peacefully coexist with November. I love the quiet that is most of my time. Right now its only the sound of fans, the distant rumble of the furnace and thoughts of coffee soon, in the dark.

A great list of what to be grateful for. I'm with DJan that # 7 is the best!

I'm reading "Cutting for Stone". I'm about half done. It's due back at the library in three days. I thought about buying it online, but now wonder if I could just read heavily for three days and finish it.

I like every item on your list.

Aren't long weekends wonderful !

I'm VERY impressed that , with a half finished book that's calling out to be read , you tidied . Obviously a saintly person !

I'm afraid the half read book would have won over tidying up every time for me!

I finished my half read book yesterday...today a quiet rainy afternoon has been devoted to creating mail art and checking out your seven good things, June!

I love your list. I think each item on the list is indicative of why I enjoy reading your blog. You capture the essence of a life well lived. You appreciate the simple, uncomplicated things in life. I like that.

Such is the good life.
Can you believe that crazy lady with the pepper spray! Another good reason to not have to shop.

I like your everyday "thankful" list. You choose the small things that make life so worthwhile and which we sometimes take for granted or forget. Hope your staycation has been awesome - sounds like it has!

It sounds like a perfect day, June! Thanks for sharing all these blessings!

That pepper spray lady was crazy!!! Glad she turned herself in-- hope they throw the book at her.

This is a good list. I love that you know the calling is from a Great Horned Owl. That's very cool.

Have a great week.

A wonderful list, and how special to find someone who feels gratified after a clearing up / tidying up job. To go out in the garden just now takes kitting up with oilskins, boots and umbrella.

I like this list - it makes me feel both comforted and accomplished (vicariously, of course ;)

good list. i particularly feel for 1. and 2. Georgia is the world's best heatsac [and possibly also the largest]. and doesn't everyone have a halfway house for things to take upstairs? i don't know whether it's the same for you but, in my case, The Other Half never seems to see this halfway house. it's always the little woman's job to clear it :)

I love your list. It paints such a wonderful picture of peace and contentment. I'm with you on the shopping thing, too. Just this morning, The Frenchman and I agreed that we weren't going to "do" Christmas this year. By that, I mean go crazy buying gifts. We don't need anything, God knows we have more than enough and we want to focus on just spending time together relaxing over a good meal. The thought of joining the rat race again this year just wears me out.

Love this. Thanks, June. My favorite is #1... I've been thinking about that a lot here lately and not taking it for granted for a single moment. (Baby Kassie sleeps right next to me every night.)

My #2 is my daughter's old room. It collects everything that doesn't have a designated place to live. It's not quite ready for an episode of horders, but i think it's getting close.

Lovely list and something we should all pause and write each week:)
