I want to move to Tennessee

I spent some time today online looking at Tennessee rural real estate ads.  I've never been there, even for a visit, so I don't know one county from another, or what cities to search in, but it's a little dream I indulge every now and then.  If I stay in this state I will never retire; the state and county taxes would render life as I know it extinct.  Tennessee seems a lot more economical.  And Tennessee scenery looks a lot like what I see here; that's important.  It's the same mountain chain, just farther south.

A few years ago there were some contractors from Tennessee  working on the local WalMart.  During our conversations in my office, one of them told me about his home in Dickson County.  He's the one who started this idea rolling around in my head, by telling me that he had all four seasons, but winter lasted only from late November through about February. I like my seasons, but I don't enjoy living with winter until late April. I'm afraid one of these winters I'll just grow roots into my couch and never be able to move again.

Tennessee is beautiful, my grandparents lived in the southwest corner of Virginia, very close to the Tennessee border, those same mountains were part of my childhood experience. I love them too!

It really is as pretty as it looks, huh, Wanda?
Just checked the TN weather statistics. January low temperature: 29*. July high temperature 88*. Boy. What a walk in the park that'd be!

Hmm, I tried to comment, but I think it got lost! Anyway, I'm TL from TN Text Wrestling. Glad you like the photo! I love living near the East TN mountains and hike there regularly.

I enjoy having four seasons. In upper East TN, where I live, winter often lasts through mid-March. Elevation makes a difference -- on today's hike, I saw snow! :)

Oh. So that's how y'delete a comment.

Thomma Lyn, your first comment did show up and rather than have the repetition, I took it out. Just so you know...I'm delighted you stopped by!

Hi June, Guess you wouldn't want to live in CO - we get about 10 months of winter and 2 of bad sledding!

I've only ever passed through Tennessee on the way to Florida. Have heard great things about it and the weather does sound ideal. I could not live without the 4 seasons.

Dreams are good but do your research thouroughly before you get real.

TN is beautiful and inspiring. The people I encountered were warm and genuine. The mountains are more pronounced than up here in Maine. But before I rhapsodize too much--the drive from Knoxville to Memphis seemed as long as the drive from Houston to El Paso except it had way better scenery.

Wow June---I came to your blog on the right day!!!! Since I live in TN (between Nashville and Knoxville on the Cumberland Plateau)--I will be glad to help you with any questions you have. I love Tennessee--and yes, we do get FOUR seasons but none too wicked (not too cold/not too hot).

IF I were coming to TN--I would definitely choose the eastern part --near the Smoky Mountains, or in my part (we're 2000 feet up on the Cumberland Plateau).

Upper East Tennessee (around Kingsport) is a great part of the state also. Dickson County is in far west TN (not far from Memphis)--and it's much hotter in that area in summer.

Thanks for coming to my blog. Come back anytime. You can learn alot about TN on my blog.

Hugs,
Betsy
